SHAH ALAM:
In early 2018, Vijay a/l Krishnan was arrested with 5 large plastic bags containing upwards of 168 kilograms of Cannabis at a sewage treatment plant near the Rawang Plaza Toll. At the time of his arrest, he was driving a black BMW 3 Series which was transporting the drugs. The case was only concluded this year due to the Movement Restriction Order (MCO) introduced by the Malaysian Government to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The DPP, Wan Ariff Muzammil bin Wan Mohamed, called 4 witnesses to prove the prosecution’s case. On the opposite side of the bench, the accused was represented by Dato’ Geethan Ram Vincent and Ms. Eu Kah Mun from Messrs Geethan Ram.
Today, High Court judge, YA Dato’ Haji Mohd Yazid bin Haji Mustafa acquitted the accused of the charge. Vijay, 39, who tested negative during his initial drug test laments about the past 3 years he spent in prison, but says he is grateful to return to society as a free man.
The Prosecution has expressed their intention to appeal the case, although this has yet to be confirmed.
