25 Year Old Acquited After He Was Caught With Around 200 Packets of Drugs.
SHAH ALAM:
25 year old Vinoth Murugiah has today been acquitted and discharged by the High Court of Shah Alam on drug possession and distribution charges.
Vinoth was only 23 years old when he let himself into his childhood friend’s home only to be arrested by police moments later. Upon searching the home, police found an estimated 200 individual packets of drugs, including Methamphetamine, Heroin and Monoacetlymorphine. When he was arrested, the accused was subjected to a urine drug test, whereupon he tested positive for intoxicating substances.
The accused was represented by Dato’ Geethan Ram Vincent and Ms. Lavanyia Raja of Messrs Geethan Ram. The Defence argued that the Prosecution has failed to prove the accused had “custody and control with knowledge” of the drugs as well as exclusive possession or access to the room in which the drugs were stored. It was further argued that accused had entered the home a mere 10 minutes before the police arrived and conducted a search.
The 25 year old’s lawyer, Lavanyia Raja said she was pleased at the court’s decision and expressed her hope at the accused leading a productive life ahead.
