DBKL Co-Op Secretary Found Not Guilty for RM2,000.00 Bribery

A secretary from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Berhad has been found not guilty at the Sessions Court here today on two counts of bribery amounting to RM2,000.00.
Moorthi A/L Muniandy, 60, was alleged to have solicited and accepted RM2,000.00 in cash from Husainar binSaidali, 62. The latter had allegedly requested for a release of the full amount of his cooperative savings money, three years ago.
Having the Accused being a civil servant, the charges were framed under Section 16 (a)(B) and 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries an imprisonment term of not more than 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value or sum of the bribe or RM10,000.00, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
After hearing the evidence from 18 witnesses, Judge Puan Rozina binti Ayob found that the Prosecution hadfailed to establish a prima facie case against the Accused, she then proceeded to acquit and discharge the Accused of both charges.Moorthi was represented by Messrs. Geethan Ram.
