KUALA LUMPUR: Former military intelligence director Lieutenant-General (Rtd) Datuk Mohd Razali Alias pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to three counts of corruption. The 60-year-old, dressed in a dark suit and appearing composed, stood quietly as the charges were read before judge Suzana Hussin.
He occasionally adjusted his outfit and nodded slightly but showed no visible emotion.
For the first charge, the accused, during his tenure as the armed forces’ Defence Intelligence director-general, is alleged to have received US$20,000 from Sheikh Ahmad Nafiq Sheikh A Rahman at Kem Kementah between August and November 2024.
The monies were purportedly given as an inducement to approve the certification and acceptance of services for payment related to the Procurement of Maintenance Services and Support Services for the Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC) System of the Defence Intelligence Staff Division (BSPP).
The offence is punishable under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
On the second and third charges, Mohd Razali is alleged to have accepted gratification on behalf of his wife, Datin Azarina Bakia, involving return flight tickets valued at RM26,800 and RM37,800, respectively.
He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How requested that bail be set at RM200,000 with one surety and for the accused’s passport to be impounded.
Lawyer Datuk Gheetan Ram Vincent, representing Datuk Mohd Razali, urged the court to grant minimal bail, stressing that its purpose was merely to secure the attendance of the accused.
The court set bail at RM50,000 with one surety and ordered the surrender of the accused’s passport until the disposal of the case.
The court also fixed March 16 for mention.
